Congratulations to Jodie Van Bruegel and Salisbury My Guy for placing 2nd with a score of 67.28% in the HRCAV TEST 3A at the recent APOBA Open Pony Dressage Champioships. This was Guys first competition of any kind under saddle and what a fantastic effort by horse and rider.
Breeder's take note, Toy Soldier will remain at Salisbury Stud for the winter to stand at public stud early in SPRING 2007. Kinsbrook stud will again offer a 20% discount on his service fee for all early bookings..

Well with all the sad concerns unfolding recently with the EI scare there will unfortunately be no new news on the show scene front. I will though attempt to keep the website updated with the latest happenings from the farm, with regular progress reports on the saddle ponies, the youngsters and any news from Salisbury stock owners and other news from stock by Weston Mirage, so WATCH THIS SPACE..............
Best wishes to all fellow horse owners in these worrying times..........

NEW HOME
Salisbury Satine has been sold to fellow Riding pony Enthusiast Paige Saunders at Yurrugar Riding Ponies. We have known Paige for sometime so we are thrilled that our darling filly Satine will have a new mum (and extended family) and will be given all the love and care she so deserves. Satine will be shown by Paige under saddle/in hand before she becomes a part of Radway Right Royal's (IMP) harem. Best wishes to Paige and Satine, I am sure there are many happy days before them.

Latest Stud news...........
Our two saddle ponies Salisbury Puzzle and Salisbury Suspicious Love are still in work. Both horses and rider are enjoying themselves' too much to do otherwise. Suspicious Love in the past week has slowly started to show signs of a summer coat (photo on right taken at the start of this month) but her full brother, is nearly fully coated of.
In the stable at the moment are the two yearling colts, Salisbury Maestro and Salisbury Centre Stage. Both are enjoying being spoilt and love their tucker. Centre Stage is very elegant, with a pretty head, lovely front and great hind end, he will make a superb large Galloway (and is good enough to run on as a colt). Maestro, will mature right on 14hh and being related to National saddle star Janevelyn Jazzman, he is sure to have a huge future. Both of them have outstanding natures and are available for sale.
Ascot Toy Soldier has his first two outside mares for the season and isn't he excited. Thanks to Hayley Malseed & Elizabeth Bruns for sending their two lovely ladies to dear Toy.

For Sale
New photos of our lovely yearling colt Salisbury Sunset. He is available to the best of homes, either as a colt or gelding. This boy could be one of the last remaining entires of Weston Sun, as dear Sun is not getting any younger and due to EI will not be standing at public stud in Victoria this year.
He is available to the best of homes as he comes from a superb show ring family being a half brother to Salisbury Suspicious Love and Salisbury Puzzle.
Well we are still waiting for our first foals to arrive. Mid November is our first due date and it is hard to keep a lid on the excitement with so many studs already enjoying the sounds of the pitter patter of tiny hooves.
In the meantime, we had a positive pregnancy test on the weekend, Lady Marlin, dam of Salisbury Satine, is in foal to Ascot Toy Soldier for a September 2008 foal.
Here are some photos of some of the girls, all looking well and LARGE........

Our First Foal
Late on Thursday night, the 6th of December, both Shane and I were delighted to see the successful delivery of Salisbury Solai's first foal. Always an anxious time with the maiden mare we had settled down for the night when the foal alarm alerted us to activity. We sat and waited, whilst poor dear "Paris"did all the work, she had allot of resting but after about 45 minutes a lovely new life had joined the family at Salisbury............ we are really delighted with girl and since she came into the world on a very significant date we have named her Angel".

Salisbury My Guy attends the Treehaven EFA Show.
December 9th heralded a welcome relief from EI for alot of showies. Our first EFA show since the outbreak of EI. Rather an achievement for all concerned to get it organised.
Jodie and Guy attended and had a great day. Very exciting for them, such anticipation.
Results were:
Ring 2 Reserve Champion Open Show Hunter Galloway - Judge Linden Hearn
Ring 3 Reserve Champion Open Show Hunter Galloway - Judge Jacqui Laidlaw
They also won their novice class, the Show Hunter Ridden classes and placed 3rd in a competitive open ridden Galloway. Fantastic results considering how KEEN the competition was. Well done Jodie and Guy.

Foaling News
4th of January - Just over 3 weeks late. Our maiden mare Coco (Salisbury Something Special) has had our first grand child of dear Weston Mirage (dec). A very petite chestnut colt with a neat blaze and four white socks. This dear foal was the result of winning 2nd place in the Melton Pony Club raffle to raise funds to build a gazebo in memory of Kathryn Sheppard, who lost her life in a tragic jet ski accident whilst on holidays O/S.
Once he fills out a bit more I will post up some photos of him.
Christmas Night - December 25th. After a long day celebrating the festive season, Shane and I returned home around 9.30pm to feed out and settle in for the night. Our T/B mare Dual Nova (Trinity) had other ideas. Trinity was due New Years Eve, well she obviously got her celebratory days confused as mother nature intervened and once she realised mum and dad were home (which she normally does as we haven't missed her foaling since moving to Garfield) she got about delivering her new bundle of joy into the world. At approximately 11.15pm, after about 35 minutes effort, the new addition had arrived. Yes another filly, this makes 7 out of 7 for sire Ascot Toy Soldier for this season. It was going to be a long night though as Ms "Holly" (paddock name) had contracted tendons and was finding it hard to drink. Finally by 2am, humans and horses got to get some rest. The following day Trinity and Holly were moved into the stable and today (6th of January) we moved Trinity, Paris and their two foals into a lovely lush paddock.
Pictured right and below Holly (Salisbury Salvation pending).

Show Prep time
With Barastoc only weeks away and the Summer Royal looming we have decided to take out our Newcomer Salisbury Suspicious Love to the EFA Open Show this Saturday (26th of January). Ruby has been working well and we are looking forward to having a practice at the Werribee grounds prior to the forthcoming shows. Salisbury My Guy and owner Jodie Van Bruegel will also be in attendance and we look forward to Trelawney Dew having a sit on "Ruby" in some of her classes as Trelawney has offered to take the ride on her for the Part Welsh at Barastoc. Since I entered both "Ruby" and full brother Salisbury Puzzle, I didn't' fancy riding both at the same time. Thanks to Trelawney for offering to assist.
Foaling News
10th of January - Photos to come. After much waiting we had our final Toy foal for the season and believe it or not it is a colt. This ended Toy' filly streak. Until "Spider" came into the world Toy had sired 7 out of 7 fillies. Kirreway Viewpoint (Carolina's Cats Whiskers x Nitton Bella T/B) decided to change all that and has produced a very sweet dark brown/black colt with long long legs (hence the name, thanks to fellow local pony breeder Lisa O'Neil). Like the two fillies by toy, this boy is very pony in the head, lovely and broad through the eyes with a great set on front and just has that appeal like the others. We are very pleased with him.

Barastoc HOTY 2008
Well, we are back from an awesome four days of competition, good company and great times. Well done to everyone involved in the organisation of this show. This was seriously the most enjoyable time I have spent competing at a show. Everything ran smoothly, everyone was happy to be out with their horses.
Thursday - The first day of competition. Our Stud was represented by Salisbury Suspicious Love (6th Newcomer Led Large Pony) and Salisbury My Guy (3rd Newcomer Show Hunter Led, 4th Led Open Show Hunter Galloway and CHAMPION RIDDEN NEWCOMER SHOW HUNTER GALLOWAY OTY what a sensational result for everyone, especially his devoted owner Jodie Van Bruegel, huge congratulations). Stock by our dear Foundation stallion Weston Mirage also did very very well: Janevelyn Chivas Regal (1st Led Newcomer Small Galloway, Reserve Champion Led Newcomer).
Friday - Today saw us take out our lovely 3yo colt Sanlirra Supernatural. This was "Scotty's" first show in 2 years. I was naturally concerned with how he would cope with all the excitement considering he has been covering mares for the first time this past season. Well, he truly proved to us, yet again what a special man he is. We were very proud of him and this was a great achievement to see "Scotty" back in the ring considering his leg injuries in the past. Sanlirra Supernatural 1st & Reserve Champion Riding Pony 3yo Colt.
Saturday - Time for Ms Ruby (Salisbury Suspicious Love) to step out under saddle. Well she really did do well, my dear sweet girl, such a wonderful easy pony to ride, you can aim her at anything, she never flinches, if anything she is a bit of a slug. She worked so well in her preliminary workout getting her into the Finals. Fronting up to the finals, there was a fine selection of ponies. Very happy again with our workout, though Ruby was starting to run out of steam and I found it rather a challenge to push her through to the end. Apart from that she didn't put a foot wrong and again we look forward to her continuing her success under saddle in the near future.
Also, again, Janevelyn Chivas Regal flew the Weston Mirage flag, taking home the Runner Up Newcomer Ridden Galloway of the Year. Congratulations Casey Waldock on producing him so brilliantly.
Sunday - Our first class for the day. Salisbury Puzzle stepping out for the first time at this years HOTY. I was fortunate to engage the services of the delightful young NZ rider Alice Hamer who was over here in Oz with the Trans Tasman Team. Alice did a superb job and it was wonderful to watch "Minty" strut his stuff out on the main arena. He put in an honest work, might have gone "In and around and out" but I was very pleased with his work (like alot of others he hasn't been out since the pre-royal in August). Thank you so much to Alice and mum Sandy for hoping on board "At the last minute" to captain Minty around the arena.
Now for the Welsh classes and into the indoors. Trelawney Dewe took the ride on Salisbury Suspicious Love (Ruby) and I had the ride on her full brother Salisbury Puzzle. Well it was very hot and stuffy in the indoor and all the riders and horses looked very drained. Ruby got called in 2nd off the circle and Minty 4th. They both worked a treat and after a few late horses joined the line up we ended up with S Suspicious Love 3rd and S Puzzle moved back up to 4th. Very pleasing for me as a breeder to have my two darlings standing side by side in the ribbons.
Quick saddle and rider change and I rode Ruby over to the main arena for the Owner/Rider Large Pony. I think we were the only pony going around in a snaffle, so maybe the only newcomer. The class was split into three heats and Ruby and I got placed into the final group. Well again, Ruby's work on the circle was a treat, she is the most reliable pony to ride, with all the action going on around her (a couple of spooked mounts probably finding the jumping on the horizon hard to handle). She got called in first in her heat, big smiles and cheers from the support team (Shane, Mandy and Minty watching ringside). Seven ponies lined up for the final workout. We were the final pair to work, getting towards the end of a long four days. Ruby worked very softly, two lovely trots across the diagonal but our canter transitions missed. Apart from that a good workout for her third show. So 7th, even though no ribbon to take home.
Salisbury My Guy was next to compete in the Welsh events under the highly respected pony breeder and judge Arlene Measuring. With young rider Alice Hamer on board "Shorty" put on a superb show. He has such a clean fluid way of covering the ground. Up against a fine line up of lovely Galloway size Hunters, horse and rider completed a faultless work out and to our cheers and tears took out the Blue Rosette. Cheraton True Blue in 2nd place and Cheraton Mikado in 3rd, both fine examples of a true Hunter type. Next was the Grand Champion Welsh Hunter and Nine Winners into the ring to compete. This was worked on the circle and our boy did everyone proud (especially his devoted owner Jodie). Another polished performance and Barastoc HOTY 2008 ended with a HUGE bang. Salisbury My Guy takes out the Grand Champion Welsh Hunter.
Other winners on the Sunday: Top Ten Open Large Galloway Janevelyn Chivas Regal and Lynmar Park Madison, both sired by Weston Mirage.
Photos to come.................
Of to the breakers.......
Our black galloway gelding Roma Vale Night Hawk is with Dean Grass for breaking and handling. All seems to be progressing well and we look forward to getting him home and working him over the winter months ready to sell on to some lucky person for a Newcomer mount for next season.
Foaling News
12th of February - Final foal for the season and what a pretty little man he is. Our very attractive T/B mare Rothwaite Love Potion foaled down early in the morning (again whilst the humans slept). Tall, fine, big fronted, long legs, very pretty head, bay with a star. Sire Weston Sun, yes our last Sun foal before he returned home to Wendy. So impressed with both our Sun babies, both have smooth bodies and clean elegant bone. This boy is all open show galloway, very spunky.
28th of January - Early in the morning (6am) and after little sleep (the humans went out celebrating Jodie Van Bruegel's birthday the night before) our treasured mare Baby Doll of Astral decided to have her foal a week early. A chestnut boy, sire Aspirations of Sefton (sire of the beautiful Reserve Champion colt foal at the 2007 Riding Pony Foal show, Naruni Park By Design).
This foal is the 4th for Baby Doll and yet again another corker. He has amazing presence, can already punch out a trot like the rest of his family and his canter is balanced and elevated. He should mature large Galloway and then some and will definately be a show hunter/dressage super star.
EFA Show Results
Ruby (Salisbury Suspicious Love) competed at the VERY well attended EFA show at WP last Sunday. I was so very pleased with the way she handled herself, being only her 2nd show under saddle. She came home with a fourth (judge Margot Haynes) in the Novice Large Pony (some very nice pony present indeed). We went in our Open and Newcomer but didn't get a call. The darling girl worked very well though so the future looks bright. Thanks for Trelawney Dewe for hoping on her for a test drive in the Open in preparation for Barastoc. Jodie Van Bruegel and Salisbury My Guy also attended taking home 1st in her Show Hunter and placed in the Open, Newcomer and Trelawney's rider class.

Red Hill Agricultural Show
We certainly are having a hot spell at the moment and with no end in sight and all a few shows to go before the end of our "Belated" season, we decided to pop on over to Bittern PC grounds for the horse section of the Red Hill Show.
As per usual, a very well organised event, plenty of classes for saddle competitiors and in hand breeders to boot. We took along our lovely saddle newcomer Salisbury Suspicious Love and again she didn't dissapoint.

Melbourne Summer Royal 2008
Can't believe it has eventually come around. After many months of waiting and a new time year, our Summer Royal has come and gone.
This year we entered our RP Colt Sanlirra Supernatural, newcomer saddle pony Salisbury Suspicious Love and our lovely grey show pony Salisbury Puzzle.
We didn't attend classes on the first day, unfortunately I couldn't get the time off work. So our first day of showing was Thursday with Sanlirra Supernatural competing in the 3yo RP colt class. After a minor delima (I had misplaced the throat latch strap to my in hand bridle and thanks to Llanfairbryn stud for loaning me a piece of their bridle). Scotty trotted out and put on a wonderful show, producing his superb huge moving trot for the English Judge Jill Perkins. She obviously appreciated his wonderful movement and he collected the blue ribbon. This time swapping positions with Langtree Wild Vision from Barastoc. Onto the championship and the very pony Rosedale Concerto was the eventual winner with the popluar Penmain Posh into reserve. That was it for us on Thursday, time to go home once we did a few minor adjustments to Salisbury My Guy who was going to compete in the afternoon. He ended up with a 4th in the Riding Pony Led Show Hunter 13.2hh - 14.2hh. Other stock by our foundation stallion Weston Mirage did well on the day. Lynmar Park Madision, 4th in the Led RP Mare 13.2hh - 14.2hh. Ballanbrae Dream Come True 1st in the Led RP Mare 12.2hh - 13.2hh. Aspen Way Gala Night, 4th Led RP Stallion 13.2hh - 14.2hh. Janevelyn Chivas Regal, 4th Led RP Gelding 13.2hh - 14.2hh.
Friday - Was a scorcher and thanks to my sister Sandra for attending the show with me and suffering in the heat. Our first class was at 9.40am and Salisbury Suspicious Love in the RP Newcomer 12.2hh - 13.2hh. Blustery and very hot already, Ruby wasn't feeling her normal happy self just prior to the class but we pulled it all together and got the first call. Very proud to stand up for our International judge and put on a good show, we got rewarded for work by retaining the "Pole Position" and taking home the blue ribbon. This was certainly a big achievement for myself personally as the road back from my riding accident, now 4.5 years on has been a slow trail. Salisbury Puzzle had his RP Pony Ridden Show Pony 12.2hh - 13.2hh at midday, too hot for me to keep the jacket on, the wind had REALLY picked up, nearly a little dust storm, the tents and buntings made for an interesting ride. "Minty" did well, got a call in, did a good honest work and just out of the ribbons in 7th. Last class for the day, the Part Welsh at 3pm was all too much for Ruby and her jockey Trelawney Dewe. She didn't work well AT ALL, very unsettled, too hot, too long a day. I rode Salisbury Puzzle and got a call and did another good work out, well done Mr Consistent "Minty", again just out of the ribbons with 7th. We waited around to miss the traffic heading over the Westgate and after another long hot Summer Royal, packed up and the show season was over.
Congratulations to all the organisers of the show, the layout and arena's looked spectacular and it really made the whole thing feel so special.

EFA Hamag Australian Young Rider & Pony Dressage Championships - 25th Mar
It was decided only last week due to scratching's that Salisbury Puzzle would put on the white saddle cloth, leave the false tail and make up at home and head out to Werribee Park for a competition with a difference "Dressage".
Yes dear Minty, who to my shame had never stepped foot inside a dressage arena before. Stepped out in the Preliminary 1.3 & 1.4 Hamag Open Pony tests last Tuesday.
I am very proud of dear Minty, one has to start sometime and along with his jockey Trelawney Dewe he placed 11th out of 15 ponies and a credidable 55.6% in his first ever test. Salisbury My Guy also competed under the guidance of Trelawney and 55.6% in the Pony Preliminary 1.3 (NC1), 56.6% in the Pony Preliminary 1.4 (NC2).
Salisbury My Guy then fronted up on the Thursday and under terrible conditions (so great to have the rain BUT) competed in the Pony Novice 2.4 (NC4) for a total percentage score of 61.6 and in the Pony Novice 2.4 (NC3) during HAIL and pouring rain scored 45.8. "Guy" will now set himself for an appearance at the APOB Dressage Pony Day on the 19th of April.

Wedding Day 19th of April 2008
Yes, finally we tied the knot and what a wonderful day it was. I can' believe it went so quick (yes everyone tells you it does but when you are there in the middle of it you just can't believe it is happening). Everything went to plan, the weather was breathless, still blue skies and serenely beautiful. The ceremony went off without a hitch (no pun intended) with a few giggles here and there (Fr Michael' reference to Aisle, Alter, Him" was very appreciated and understood by all. The reception held at Cranbourne Golf course was immaculate and great atmosphere which encouraged everyone to relax, socialise and have a blast, we even indulged in Karaoke towards the end of proceedings (to my delight). I will post up more pictures over the coming weeks as they come in (thanks to Shane' sister Jodie Doherty and my mate Lesley Walton for being our paparazzi). I also couldn't thank my two bridesmaids (sister in law Shae Jose and my sister Sandy) for all their awesome hard work. What super stars. So enjoy the pictures, we certainly enjoyed posing for them..................

Belated Weaning Time - June 2008
Due to our nuptial celebrations weaning had to be put on hold until Shane and Di (and everyone else) recovered from all the excitement. Now it is back into the horse chores and after Shane completed the third stable the first three weanlings started their Amazing Journeý. Into the box's are Joey (STILL un-named Sire Ninfield Minks Supreme, Dam Salisbury Something Special), Holly (Salisbury Salvation) and Angel (Salisbury Ce Soir). Holly is taking it all in her stride, you would think nothing has happened, she is mature beyond her months, loves a cuddle, always has her head over the stable door for a scratch. Dear Angel, the friendliest foal in the paddock, stood in the corner and sulked for days, now she is starting to remember who we are. Was always happy for a scratch though. Joey, typical little boy (did I say that) had tantrum', cried alot for his mummy but now seems to be settling. So just a week into it, these three are going through the process with flying colours.
Pictured left Salisbury Salute, heard the rumour weaning had started and thought he would leave town. Photo taken 1st of June 2008.

2008 SHC Hack and Riding Spectacular - 3rd June
Congratulations to Redlands Stables and Georgie Cooke on her top 5 Show Hunter Large Pony with Redlands Outrageous. His sire is our dear departed Weston Mirage and his dam "Rage" lives with us here on agistment and is currently in foal to the beautiful Ascot Toy Soldier.
Also congratulations to conections of Janevelyn Memphis on top 5 Saddle Galloway 14.2-15hh. Memphis is a full brother to our mare Salisbury Hot Gossip, both being sired by Weston Mirage and we also own their dam the lovely T/B mare Rumours. Rumours will be served by our colt Sanlirra Supernatural this spring. We also plan to put Hot Gossip in foal this season to Supernatural.
ASPR Vic Pony Challenge 3rd of August 2008
Salisbury My Guy and Salisbury Puzzle competed last weekend at the ASPR 2008 Vic Pony Challenge.
My Guy, who is really taking the show and dressage world by storm won the Preliminary 1.2 with a score of 79.6. Beautifully ridden by Rebecca Ross and a credit to owner Jodie Van Bruegel for all the work she puts into him (and love and kisses). Guy also won the Material class for 4 year old males, which is a combination of in hand and under saddle evaluation relevant to the age of the animals on show. Salisbury Puzzle at only his 2nd outing in dressage placed mid field. He shows huge potential and after only two weeks back in work he deserved a gold star for his effort. Thanks to Jodie for working him prior to the competition and Rebecca Ross for riding him also in his tests.
It was a great weekend with lots to look at for the pony enthusiasts. We also took the opportunity to get our boys (horses that is) microchipped. Huge congratulations to the organisers of such a spectacular event that showcases the capabilities of our ponies.
Salisbury Sunset Finds New Home 19th of August 2008
Congratulations to Bryony Giusti of New Gisborne on her recent purchase of the truly delightful 2yo Riding Pony Gelding Salisbury Sunset. Bryony's background is in Dressage and she has been very successfull on her lovely warmblood Batten Dutch Image. She looks forward to competing with Archie this season in hand and when he is older campaigning him under saddle in the show and pony dressage arenas. Archie is a 3/4 brother to Salisbury Suspicious Love and Salisbury Puzzle and just like both of them he is very trainable, loves attention, willing and a very happy soul. We are sure this combination will be hugely successfull and wish them all the best in their new adventure together..............
